Guest Lecture Associate Prof. Liao Guirong (3in1 Program) from the Director of Confucius Institute / Center for Chinese Language UM

Master’s Programme in Linguistics Faculty of Cultural Studies (FCS) Universitas Brawijaya (UB) held a Guest Lecture with the theme How to Teach Mandarin by Associate Prof. Liao Guirong (Director of Confucius Institute / UM Chinese Language Center). The activity which is part of the 3in1 Program was held on Wednesday (3/11/2021) online through the Zoom Meeting platform.

The speaker discussed 3 major topics, namely Teaching resources that can be used in teaching Mandarin. The resources displayed in this material are materials designed with a modality approach so that it is interesting and makes it easier for students to learn Mandarin. Applications and several study pages are examples given by the presenters. The second topic is Teaching Methods that can be applied in teaching Mandarin using teaching media containing modalities. The use of games and songs are examples given by the presenters. The third main topic is the cultural elements that are an important part of the Chinese language teaching process. Considering that language is part of culture, the presenters reminded to insert information related to culture to enrich the knowledge of learners regarding the language being studied.
