The Master’s Programme in Linguistics, Department of Languages and Literature at Faculty of Cultural Studies was established in 2012 with the decree of Universitas Brawijaya (UB) Rector No. 284/SK/2012. The opening of the study programme was in accordance with the increasing interest in postgraduate education in the field of linguistics in Malang and its surroundings. Initially, the programme was named Master in Applied Linguistics. However, in order to comply with the policy of the Indonesia ministry of Education and Culture at that time, the name was changed into Master in Linguistics. In 2014, this study programme got its legal status from The Directorate General of Higher Education (DIKTI), SK 595/E/EO/2014. Afterwards, the Master’s Programme in Linguistics was accredited B in 2005 by the National Body of Accreditation for Higher Education (BAN PT) with the decree of SK BAN PT Nomor: 1152/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/M/XI/2015.
